Continuous Improvement Strategy for College Student Retention
Continuous Improvement strategies such as the continuous improvement classroom using quality tools, the continuous improvement cycle known as PDSA (plan-do-study-act) and Lean Six Sigma can significantly improve student retention. Continuous Improvement requires a learning organization culture, a culture that implements improved teaching and student support through assessments and a continuous improvement strategy.
The Veenstra Model - Nine Pillars for STEM Student Success
The Veenstra Model is based on Dr. Veenstra's research. It is as an assessment framework to help identify patterns of student success which can lead to a strategy of best practices an improvement plan for the first year STEM student retention.
Cindy P. Veenstra, Ph.D. is the founder and director of Veenstra & Associates. She has recently retired as a consultant but will continue to be an advocate for STEM Education and continuous improvement in education. In the past 10 years, she has gained national recognition for her STEM student retention research published in ASEE and ASQ journals and conference proceedings. She is the lead editor of Advancing the STEM Agenda: Quality Improvement Supports STEM., a leading book on the discussion of the role of quality and continuous improvement in inspiring and preparing the next generation of STEM innovators. Her efforts led to the success of the ASQ Advancing the STEM Agenda Conferences, bringing industry and education together in meaningful discussions on STEM education and efforts supported by industry.
